Edie is 4 Months Old and Medical Issues

What a week. I'm barely able to type this as I am holed up in the studio and trying to rest. But I'll get to that later. Edie turned 4 months old on Wednesday. We headed to the doctor's office for her check up and second round of vaccinations. I was prepared with a preemptive dose of tylenol as the last vaccination made her quite unhappy and one swelled up a bit. This time around, she seemed to handle it all very well. She was a bit groggy that day but overall, was in good spirits. Thursday morning, she woke up with her body in hives. Large red welts, and small red spots ALL OVER. We headed back to the doctor and they confirmed she was having an allergic reaction. But they weren't sure which vaccine because they have three in one shot. SO, we were to wait and see and we would separate the next round into separate vaccines to see which one reacts.

Friday, the welts were worse, so we went back to the doctor again. At this point, three docs collaborated and determined that she needed to go on a minor steroid, like claritin, to help minimize the symptoms as they were concerned that the hives would start affecting her airway. That made me nervous but seeing her body covered in red welts and clearly affecting her comfort was more stressful. So...that was the plan. As for me, I noticed a small rashy area on my side just below my ribs on Wednesday afternoon. I thought I had worn a sensitive spot from using the sling so much that day with Edie. I ignored it. On Thursday it was hurting a bit but I was still pretty distracted with Edie's health. On Friday, I noticed it was blistering. Then I thought, shingles. After googling images of shingles I was pretty certain.

So I went in with Edie on Friday and the doc confirmed that I had shingles. I had been dealing with an intestinal virus throughout the week as well so that, combined with lack of sleep, extra stress over Edie, etc. my immune system was down and that old chicken pox virus peaked its ugly head. I didn't think much of it until yesterday when the full symptoms hit. Fever, nausea, headaches, body aches, pain around my stomach, you name it. It feels a lot like the flu actually with a burning spot of blisters. Nice, huh? Yeah...like I need this too. I tried to take care of Edie yesterday while Rodney took Lucy down to Grandma and Grandpa's RV for the day. I did ok most of the day because I just slept with her for each of her naps. More than I would have gotten if Lucy was here. But by the end of the day, my body was giving out. Rodney has been on 100% since last evening and I am stashed away in our studio in the garage. Sleeping and just being quiet. The headaches are HORRIBLE!!! Edie is in boot camp as she hasn't allowed Rodney to put her to sleep for weeks now. Lucy woke up with a runny nose today as she started school last week. Yeah...we're a great house to visit right now.

Thank goodness Grandma and Grandpa are still here. They are supposed to leave tomorrow morning and I had grand plans for this weekend as we were going to have a small farewell dinner to try to say thank you for all that they have done for us this summer. Instead, I had to call mom and ask for more help. UGH!

I have lots of pictures of our recent events like Edie growing up, Lucy starting school and little updates around the house but I'll have to post those later.

The bad news is that what's going on is really tough, the Good News is that God never allows the trials we face to be greater than the grace He gives you to handle them.

Many prayers from Ohio,
Love you
