Playtime with Edie

Discovering one's shadow in Seattle in January is a rare occurrence. But Edie and I have had some time recently to explore while Lucy is at school and it happened to coincide with some sunshine. She stood here for quite a while and moved various body parts. She started pointing out all the body parts she recognized in her shadow.

Can you see the pine branch in her hand? She found this "tree" on our hike and it is now in our car. She seems to be attached to sticks and rocks just like Lucy. But her favorite part was walking through the stream and testing those boots. Lands' End does make a good boot. These are 4 years old and have had A LOT of wear!!!
Seriously...could she be any cuter? I had forgotten how little time she had to fully direct her play and guide me where she wanted. She also has been spending a lot of time in the stroller in an effort to get Lucy the exercise she needs on a bike or such. Edie is THRILLED to be out on her own, walking where she wants when she wants. Its actually a bit of a problem too. She doesn't have the need to stay close to me like Lucy did. Edie is ok with quietly slipping off down a sidewalk away from the playground or the most recent stop on a hike. I have to keep a close eye on her and she doesn't stop yet when I yelled it. Even with my most desperate voice I have discovered. So...right now, these solo adventures are where she gets her freedom. Can you see her joy?

WOW! That last picture is absolutely adorable!!! And I'm right there with you...Calli just decided to chase the car when Gene left and couldn't care less that I was calling to her. Very frightening feature of these fearless little ones!!!
