co-op and twinkle little star

I thought you might want to see some pictures from Lucy’s preschool experiences. There are a couple from our Wednesday, small co-op which is more informal. It’s with the 6 girls you have seen before. The other pictures are from the Thursday co-op that is run through the community college.

But before I get into those, I had another emotional moment this morning. I’m discovering that one of the best parts about being a parent is seeing Lucy do something that I know she learned from me. It can be frightening too but I’m talking about the heartwarming things today. Since Lucy was very tiny, I have sung twinkle, twinkle, little star to her. When I’m trying to get her to fall asleep, I will sing it over and over but change the tune and freestyle it so I don’t go numb. But I always sing the same words. It was also the first song that I taught her sign language to. The motions are very simple and every kids group sings this song.

Recently, like this past week, she has been singing to herself when she plays. I thought she was just babbling like she always does but there is a part that sounds like the first line of twinkle, twinkle, little star. Now…after I thought this, I immediately reminded myself that she is only 18 months old. I don’t think that it is possible for her to be able to sing that tune yet. But I enjoyed telling myself the story.

On the way back from co-op today, I was listening to NPR talk radio and she was babbling to herself. I then heard her singing this tune again. I looked in the rear view mirror and she was doing the sign language as well. She sang the whole song to herself and clapped at the end. I could barely contain my joy. I think my eyes got teary!

Oh…I’m trying to find my zen space with her naps as well. She has decided to do 12 hours at night and only one during the day. I know, I know…12 hours at night! I should be grateful. Yes, I am. I’m also trying to find the peace to enjoy my one hour of break during the day. It’s hard to be on with her all day. SO…on this note, I’m signing off so I can have lunch and watch some crappy TV.

Lucy is riding her favorite new toy, the Rodi. Her friend Samantha is talking with her mama, Patricia.

She is just beginning to really focus on manipulatives like this one. She used to just put them in her mouth and run away. Now she will stack them a couple times before they go in her mouth.

Lucy was really into the driving toys today. She found this spot pretty interesting with her friend Spencer. They thought this crazy mirror was pretty cool as their image was in so many places.

The sensory play today was water play and finger paint. You can imagine why I don’t have pictures of the finger painting experience. This is our parent educator, Janet who is always available for support.

She decided trying to step over was just silly and she would just dive in.
