surrogate grandparents for the day

We were very excited to spend the afternoon with friends of Grandma and Grandpa Brogdon from Illinois. Paul and Candy Stivers were in Seattle visiting their son, Fred. We've been getting to know Fred since he moved here earlier this year. We've heard so much about Paul and Candy and it sounded like they knew us pretty well from stories. It was great to finally meet each other.

Lucy was thrilled to have visitors and got to taste lemonade for the first time. I think the cold surprised her at first but once she tasted that fabulous sweet and sour combo, she was hooked. Paul couldn't get a sip in between her grabbing and gulping!

We had a great dinner of burgers and fresh zucchini from the garden and even homemade ice cream for dessert. Uncle Dan, Rodney's brother, sent Lucy a cool ice cream ball that makes ice cream as you kick it around. It actually worked and the ice cream was terrific! Since it was Candy's birthday yesterday, we topped her's with a couple candles.

Lucy enjoyed having some grandparents to hang out with as she showed them what sounds a dog and fish make and practiced her "blowing kisses" skills. It was also nice to share some of the duties!! What a great day!

HI kids - what great photos - even if it was of us! We are looking at new cameras on this end.

We so enjoyed our trip and time with the OByrne's.

From your friend in New Hampshire to the surrogate grandparents--you look good in that role. I miss you all.

Hi Gretchen! I've been so hooked on Kristin's blog (www.voofavoofa.blogspot.com) that I haven't seen yours for a long time - what a cutie! I am sooooo looking forward to the emminent arrival of my first grandchild. And I know Paul Stivers from Horace Mann, so that was fun seeing him too.
