Spring Play

The other big news is that the coop is finished and the girls got to move in to their new home this week. Here are some interior shots.
Lucy's job is to help me put fresh bedding in after we clean it. She is standing at the end where we will gather eggs and is filling the nesting box.
Here's Lady stretching up as she checks the place out. The trap door at the upper right of the picture is how they will get down to the ground underneath. There is also a door on the side for easy cleaning. Rodney even put a real stick in there as a roost.
Another view from the nesting boxes.
There's the cool roost. Of course, so far, they have decided to roost on the edge of the nesting box instead of here so we have some changes to make.

Edie's most favorite things right now are climbing and sliding. She manages this almost entirely by herself. First you have to climb the wall. Then you climb up to the platform and stop to play the bar bells if you like. Then scoot your bottom to the edge of the slide and slide down.

Here's a video of the wall climb.

And in case you enjoy a little chicken viewing as much as I do, here is there latest favorite place. The wood chips have started to compost so they discovered worms here. They found the place after following me across the yard. Once they were there, they didn't leave for a half hour. A couple times, Tess ran out from under it with a worm in her mouth and Lady following. It was so funny.

And Lucy got her first pair of roller skates this week. She is beyond thrilled! She is mostly on the carpet in our house but we managed to get outside yesterday during Edie's nap and try the sidewalk. I think I may have to get a pair again. Look out Rat City Rollergirls. You may have two new recruits!!
