Hanging with the Chicks

First some pics from our last few days. We headed to our neighborhood business district on Sunday afternoon for Honkfest. We've never experienced this before. There were several locations blocked off in the street for "street bands". Basically, these were eclectic mixes of brass, drums, a few woodwinds and strings and they played a wide range of music. Mostly stuff to get up and dance to. And it seemed that a big part of the performance were kooky costumes.

Yesterday afternoon, the girls and I headed to Lincoln Park for some digging, scooting and swinging. We were surprised by two white geese who clearly come here often. They were not at all phased by everyone roaming by. This made me slightly nervous with Edie who was ready to crawl right up to them. Luckily, she has a big sister who can't keep her body still and continued to freak out the geese so they kept moving away.
I had a few moments of complete silence while both girls dug around in the dirt.
And here they are, feathers and all. They almost have their first full set of feathers. They are so ready to be outside but our temperatures just aren't quite warm enough yet and the coop isn't quite done. But they were happy with their 1/2 hour roaming the yard.
The funniest thing was when I realized that they were following Lucy or myself. At one point, she trotted across the yard past them without making note of them at all. They quickly caught up to her and followed her to her play house about 20 feet away. It was really funny to watch. They did the same to me. Tess likes to stand close to my feet which worries me a bit while she's small. Like I need someone else right under my feet. Oh well...its still pretty sweet that they know me. They have been responding to my voice as well. I'm the only one changing their water and food right now so I think that makes a difference.

Here's a little video too. I wish I would have turned around so the background was the nice green lawn but instead, you are looking at our construction/storage zone in the back. Please ignore that and gaze at our beautiful girls.

We've been to HonkFest several times in Somerville. Quite entertaining, in a weird sort of way! Between the political statements, odd clothing choices and alternative music, you never know what to expect.
