Rainy Days

We've been hanging inside due to the crazy rainy days recently. They aren't the typical Seattle rainy days. These are those blustery, cold, heavy rainy days. Not much fun for an infant. So this has led to lots of funny videos around the house.

I was in the midst of changing Edie's clothes and let her hang out for a while on the rug. She doesn't get to be naked much right now because our house is pretty chilly. But she was so darn cute! The growling cracks me up.

Lucy and I also worked on some Christmas presents for some of her friends but we had to make one for her as well. She got to use the sewing machine and put most of the bag together by herself. She pushed the pedal and lifted the foot. I just told her when to stop and start and I guided the fabric. It was really sweet. There was a moment when she looked at the machine as it was running and then at me with huge eyes and said, "I'm doing it all by myself!" When we got done, she had a gigantic smile on her face and was jumping up and down so excited to show her daddy.

Here is the finished product. It's for all those treasures you discover when you are out and about. In Lucy's case, these are almost always rocks and sticks but sometimes pine cones, leaves, flowers, etc. It's made of window screen so the dirt and sand filters through to leave only the jewels behind. It's from a book called Homemade Home. I love the projects in this book and they are designed to be done with kids which is fun.

Lucy adapted the design a bit as her name was supposed to be stamped on the muslin piece but instead, that became an original art piece and her name was stamped above. She also requested a specific handle style. Seriously, this was super fun to make with her even though she looks a bit zoned out.

Sorry about the lighting. We're going to have to figure out how to make this better if we're going to document our activities this winter. Of course, in this video its not really the images that are the best part, its the sounds.

I don't even have kids and think the Christmas present you guys made is a totally awesome idea! And love to hear Edie's laughter - that is sooo sweet!!!
