Triage

H1N1 has entered the O'Byrne household. And yes, it came from the preschooler. Don't all diseases arrive from the children in school? Poor Lucy is battling a NASTY cough, fever, aches and general discomfort. We were able to get her some tamiflu so I'm hoping it can minimize some of the symptoms. Unfortunately, we are dealing with a three year old so taking medicine is a challenge.

We are progressing to more and more sneaky ways of hiding it. First, she chased each sip with water, then she sucked on her popsicle between each sip. Then the sips became just lip touches into the liquid which would have taken us all night so Grandma had the idea of scraping the popsicle into a slushy/granita type of substance and I mixed the liquid into that. Kind of like a Tamiflu snow cone. This morning that didn't work again so I mixed it in her yogurt and she ate it just fine. We'll see if I can do that again. Of course, the pharmaceutical companies create these horrendously sweet flavors in an effort to mask the taste of the medicine so it's a bit challenging to find something that can actually cover that up.

Good news right now is that the sun is shining and everyone is outside. Edie is in the swing and Lucy is helping Daddy with a project. She doesn't have her typical energy and is not bouncing around the yard climbing the apple tree, but she is outside getting some fresh air. I fully expect her to come in soon and crash on her bed for a couple hours but this moment gives me hope.
