Car Rides and Sleeping Tales

Firstly, its 2:30am and I am playing the "watching the water boil" game or waiting to see if Edie will put herself back to sleep. I've been up for 45 minutes determined to make this work. We have been extremely blessed over the past 6 weeks as Edie decided at 10 weeks old she was going to sleep straight through the night from 9ish to 6ish. But the last few days, she has been waking up. She's not hungry, her brain is movin'. It's the classic tale of a growth spurt/developmental milestone interrupted sleep.

She is just about to figure out how to roll over and she is intensely more aware of her surroundings. It's like a light went on recently and the brightness in her eyes is obvious. She is much more attuned to details around her and therefore is having a hard time sleeping. On top of all of this, she is trying to cut several teeth at the same time so there is a fountain flowing from her lips down her chin. In the past couple weeks, her short half hour cat naps during the day were not cutting it for her so I started wearing her in the sling to help get longer naps. Well, all this coziness is leading to an inability to stay asleep at night.

So here I am, listening to her somewhat agitated and wondering when to go back in and help. OH..the volume just went up, I better check as she is sharing a room with Lucy. I don't understand how Lucy does it but toddlers must have some crazy deep sleep because she hasn't even stirred.

Ok..I'm back. After 5 minutes of singing and patting, she has rolled back to her back, ONCE AGAIN with eyes wide open and talking. She is not unhappy to be awake, but I guarantee she would pass out if I picked her up. She is that close. So I'm making her wait again and I'll try one more time before I pick her up and get her back to sleep. The bummer is when I pick her up, it will still be at least another 1/2 hour before I can try to put her down and I can go to my own bed. That's partly why I'm at least trying to get her to fall asleep in the crib. I might as well use the time.

But...the louder cry has begun again. I'll leave this post for now and update you tomorrow on the outcome.

Oh...we are having computer difficulties this week so I won't have pics for a while.
