One Step Forward....

Sleep....everything right now is about SLEEP!! Lucy had such a weird day yesterday with her naps. She didn't really seem to wake up until 2pm. I wrote down all of her naps which definitely helped me feel better. By last night I needed a break. I left for an hour and a half to read at Barnes and Noble for me time. Of course, I spent the whole time reading a sleep book.

I came back to a scene that I haven't experienced in these first three months. Lucy and Rodney had gone for a walk cuz she was fussy. That was not new. However, she used to pass out on the walks after crying horribly. Last night she had her eyes WIDE open and was soaking in the environment. When I got home, Rodney was starting the bedtime routine of changing her into her sleeper. He had already fed her and now they were turning down the lights in her room and saying goodnight to everything. This usually is done while she is screaming. Last night, she was quiet and listening. I sat down with her on the bed and read "Goodnight Moon". (We've never been able to add the book to the routine due to her screaming) I swaddled her, put her in her crib, turned on her rain music and sat on the floor. Waiting....waiting....waiting...

Lucy often falls asleep with a binky propped in her mouth as we are holding her tight against us. She sucks vigorously. When it drops in the crib, she often stirs and needs it put back in.

Last night, I had to put it back in twice. But I didn't make eye contact or talk to her and she was calm. Finally, she stopped moving and I thought she had fallen asleep. I slowly got up and creeped to the bed. Her head was turned away from mine so I had to lean over her to see her eyes. Suddenly she turned her head my way. I dropped to the floor like I was dodging a bullet. She stayed quiet as I remained on my stomach and noticed a lost binky under crib.

Not wanting to interrupt such a beautiful moment. I crawled out of her room and jumped for joy! It worked....it really worked!!!

At her 4am feeding I did this again. Sat on the floor waiting to leap up at any moment to get the binky back before she woke up completely. Again, I crawled out of the room. This time, Murphy was sitting in front of me, face to face, wondering if I was ready to play.

What crazy things we do to get them to sleep. She is so much more rested this morning!!! I hope we can replicate it again. I know better, of course. I may be crawling out of her room a lot.

I tell you what, I'd love to have a camera not on Lucy, but on you and Rodney at any given moment! I admire both of your unstoppable attempts at figuring out the best things for her, it's really sweet. I am also glad to hear that you're working on me time, that's so important.
Hugs, Sarah
