So last night we ventured out to Baby's R Us to set up our registry. As we were getting out of the car, we realized this was the last time we would have the pleasure of using the scanner gun to select items at will. "From now on, we will be getting the bill for everything. We will be paying for birthday parties, schools, and weddings."
We got to the registry counter to check in and met with a very nice woman who helped us set up our registry. She was obviously new to the process and was visible trying to remember what she had been trained to say. She worked here way through a sales script and accompanying visual aid to assist and end with, “oh, and our selections are exceptional”.
After finishing the instruction on how to use the gun and before sending us on our way, she pointed out where the restrooms were located…which was our first stop.
In this process I realized that we had left the colors of the room at home which would make the selection of fabrics a little difficult. Because this is not the first time we have done this we have memorized the paint colors. Distant Haze and Sea Rover. So off to the hardware store I go to get chip. Things are never as easy as they seem. This store in particular did not carry the same paint brands. So after gaining some assistance from the paint guy, I left with colors that were very close.
When arriving back at Baby’s R Us, I find Gretchen lounging comfortably with a book and some cookies that they were BOTH enjoying.
We moved throughout the store finding lots of great things. The phrase for the evening turned out to be “let’s get 2 in case 1 gets poop on it”. I quickly agreed and scanned 3.
2 hours after getting to the store, 1 trip to the hardware store, 1 bag of cookies and at least 2 trips to the restroom, we made our way to the stroller and car seat section about 2/3rds through the shopping spree. Over the intercom we hear, “the store will be closing in 15 minutes.”
…Things are never as simple as they seem
At least we get to go use the scanner gun again.
We will have the registry complete soon and will post a link.
All the best,
Rodney
